'75 Jacksonian...
"The yellow light was on inside the gym, the locker rooms, and the pool. Time was running out. South Bend Tribune sports writers adopted the term "Doomsday Tigers" to refer to the Jackson athletic teams in their last year of competition. but it came to be a term of respect as fired-up teams and fans faced each contest with the determination to go out fighting.

Tiger coaches never dwelt on "what might have been." They concentrated their efforts on helping every Jackson athlete to reach is or her highest potential, and in the process the teams were, overall, as successful as ever in the school's 10-year history."

The 74 golf team won the sectional and placed 5th in the state, and the 75 golfers are in a winning season so far.
Girls' sports got a boost with the passage of an addition to the U.S. Education Amendments. (Title IX) requiring that girls be provided equal opportunities in athletics in any federally-funded institution. Jackson already had girls' teams in volleyball and swimming. Last spring softball was added, and this spring a girls' track team was organized. (It was?? Does organized mean that we had an actual team?)

Jackson had won the All Sports Trophy for the second year in a row. This award is given to the NIVC member school with the best overall performance in all nine sports. It took the mighty Tigers to break the domination of All Sports award by Penn who is the only other school ever to hold the award. It is too bad that Jackson has only one more year left. The Tigers were just beginning to pick up steam and receive state-wide recognition in sports.
